The fan clutch acts as a thermostatic coupling that controls the speed of the engine cooling fan blade relative to engine temperature. Filled with high-viscosity silicone fluid and regulated by an internal bimetallic coil sensor, it automatically engages full fan speed when radiator temperatures rise and disengages when the engine cools down to reduce engine drag and save fuel.

Under extreme Gulf summer temperatures and heavy commercial driving loads, internal silicone fluid degrades or leaks out, causing the fan clutch to slip continuously.
